Pastoral Training And Church Leadership

Most ordained priests and church leaders in Uganda do not have Bible or church leadership training.  Also, most priests and church leaders are not saved but practice a works-based form of Christianity.  Furthermore, the number of priests or lay church leaders with an advanced education is extremely limited. 

• All of this, plus numerous logistical challenges make theological training in Busoga Diocese, a typically graduate level undertaking, complicated indeed.  Fortunately, Hesed ministries and the Anglican Church of Uganda have a great resource in Bishop Kyomya. 

• Michael graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary with a Th.D. after attaining a Master of Divinity at Nairobi International School of Theology and a second master’s degree, an M.A. in Sacred Theology, also from Dallas Theological Seminary. 

• After completing his theological training, Michael taught at and served as the first African academic dean of the Nairobi International School of Theology in Kenya for several years before returning to Uganda in 1996. 

The Anglican Church in Busoga Diocese has over 1,200 ordained priests and lay church leaders.  In addition to working with church leadership in the Anglican churches, Hesed works.
